If I opened my bridge and culled a few, I would get cavern dwellers arrive pings for the next year as more and more appear all the time. Dwarf Fortress dwarves with actual graphics are super cute. I estimate there were something like 200+ serpentmen in my upper 2 cavern levels. Greek yogurt also contains high levels of calcium, which is essential for maintaining. You can just dig another pit downstream for the water to flow to if you're just making a couple muddy farm plots one time. I lost my fort due to functional fps death. So you'll need a floodgate upstream, and probably a grate downstream - and then you need somewhere for the water to go. Alternately you can farm anywhere that is soil, so look around the various Z levels for one that has soil and dig into that level. Usually I just use it for creating farmland and for wells (useful in hospitals and prisons), but you can also use it for power generation or mist (makes dwarves happy but pretty risky), or for traps.įor farmland, you need a way to get water into the plot and then back out. You can create an artificial pond with your dwarves for them to haul water over to the area you want to farm, then release the water over your farming area. The biggest thing you want to plan out is what you'll use the water for. The default settings produce levels with around 50 z-levels of land (for an embark with average elevation changes) with an additional 15 z-levels of empty sky space above the highest point of land mountainous regions can end up with well over a hundred z-levels of caverns. But if you're not ready for that, just build on another part of your starting area. Starting over in Dwarf Fortress after everyone dies is a time-honored tradition. Just remember, if you screw it up, it's all part of the experience. And if it ends up working fine, then you can mine over and connect back to it and use it. Go build a test reservoir where it won't affect your base and try out the water physics. Kitfox Discord #modding-discussion channelīronzemurder and Oilfurnace (illustrated) the squares on the world map before you embark turn into 48x48 squares of tiles on the in-game map, and the caverns tend to avoid the corners of those 48x48 squares, so if you take a 4x4 embark and dig straight down in the exact center, it is quite common to miss all three caverns and even the magma sea until you move some distance sideways.
