![]() This is why culture eats strategy for breakfast. They end up seeing through the big glossy marketing campaigns, your strong Tik Tok game to how you actually treat people. How you treat people, not just your employees, but candidates too, can have a real impact on your bottom line and brand perception/engagement. I’ve not only unfollowed them on socials and am no longer a customer, but I’ve also told people about my experience peaking behind the curtain into the inner workings of the brand when they’re mentioned and informed anyone thinking of applying there of my experience. So now back to the benefits of EX – since this experience, I haven’t viewed the company the same, it really left a bad taste in my mouth. ![]() Not getting a job doesn’t have to mean having a negative experience with the company, instead it should leave the candidate wanting to apply again and feeling as though they are missing out, not that they’ve had a narrow escape from joining a company that doesn’t care about their people experience. ![]() Not everyone can get every role they apply for, I know that, but when candidates sink hours into getting interview ready, companies should have the decency to at least contact them and give feedback. But why should I be the one embarrassed, I’d spent hours doing all the right things. Well, it’s safe to say I felt so small in that moment, embarrassed even to have called up asking for feedback and the outcome, totally and utterly faceless and nameless to this company I had put on a pedestal and spent hours researching, following them on socials for years and liking and sharing their posts. Nonetheless, I followed up the interview saying how lovely it was to meet everyone and if they could confirm timelines for the next stages etc., this was met with radio silence… When I called up their HR department a week later asking for the recruitment person I’d been dealing with I received the response “They are on leave, but I know they issued an offer letter for this role before they went off, so if you haven’t received one I’d assume you didn’t get the job if I was you.” I didn’t hear from the recruitment consultant again, I didn’t receive an automated rejection, if I hadn’t tracked down the number of their HR department, I’m not sure I would’ve ever heard from them. In truth, it felt like they already had a candidate in mind and they were just following internal processes by turning up to interview me. ![]() I was then asked a few questions, from a very unenthused would-be manager and got very short, blunt answers to my questions. I felt like I’d started on the back foot but I proceeded and after I finished sharing my screen I could see one of the interviewers playing on their phone, gutting. The day of the interview, the panel were late with no apology and asked me to kick off my presentation without intros. I spent my evenings researching the company and the interview panel, building out my presentation and noting down questions to ask. No pre-screen call, no human interaction, no information on the interview process, just a cold interview for Zoom landing in my diary.īut hey, I got an interview at my dream company, fab news, if not just a little bit of an underwhelming delivery. ![]() Here’s an experience of mine I’ve recently used to talk about the benefits of investing in EX and how detrimental it can be when you neglect this area of your operations.Ī few years ago I applied for a role at a company I had idolised for ages and would have loved to work at, it was a sideways move, but I thought from my perception of the brand that I would love the culture there, that they invest in their people and everyone would have a like-minded, passionate and enthusiastic approach to work.Īfter a lengthy application form, I was invited to interview with three employees, no context of who they were or what the interview would be like, just a request for a 15 min presentation from me. Not sure if you “buy in” to the whole “Employee Experience/ EX” thing? Just a load of fluff that’s not contributing to your business, brand or profits? ![]()
